Cotsen registration deadline coming up soon

Registration for the upcoming Cotsen Open closes on October 9th; click here now to register. The tournament is October 13-14 at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles. In addition to the usual free shoulder massages, Kogi BBQ is 2018.10.03_2015-cotsen-IMG_0219catering both Saturday and Sunday; free lunch for all pre-registered attendees. Three Korean professionals — Dalhoon Ahn 9P, Seo Nungwuk 9P, and Na Jonghoon 8P — will be on hand for simul games on Saturday. “We will be streaming Hikaru No Go on the 3rd floor for anyone who wants to watch,” says TD Christopher Saenz.

Volunteers wanted for set-up, registration, game recording and post-tourney takedown; volunteers get a special dinner invitation and game recorders get E-Journal caps. Email cotsenopen@gmail.com ASAP if interested.

Pandanet AGA City League Registration

2017.10.03_PANDANETPandanet AGA City League registration continues. Join some of the strongest players in the US and Canada in competing throughout the year. Compete for $14,000 in prizes in the multiple leagues. This tournament will run from November to May. Check the rules  for full tournament details . Any questions contact TD Steve Colburn. Show off your city’s strength this year! It could be your team joining us for the finals at the US Go Congress next year in Madison, Wisconsin.

Applications open for 17th World Students Go Oza Championship prelim

The 17th World Students Go Oza Championship will be held from Feb 18 to 22, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.  Sixteen students from around the world will come together in Japan to decide the world’s number one student player.  To select the 16 students, an online preliminary round will be held on Pandanet.  Two students from the Americas will be selected; their airfare and accommodations will be covered by the event organizers.  Click here  for details and here for the entry form . The application deadline is Oct 21. Students under the age of 30 and currently enrolled in an American university/college may participate in the preliminary round, irrespective of their nationality.

What’s the fastest way to the top boards at the upcoming Cotsen Open? Volunteer as a game recorder! No previous 2018.09.22_cotsen-2016-IMG_2015experience necessary but you do need a laptop with KGS on it and must be available all day Saturday and/or Sunday, October 13/14 at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Cotsen Open website back up; pre-register for full benefits

The website for the 2018 Cotsen Open is back up. The tournament is on October 13th-14th; pre-registration will close on2018.08.01-cotsen-open Tuesday, October 9th, at 11:59pm. Day-of registration will also be available for $25. Pre-registration comes with benefits, including $20 entry fee and free food truck lunch on both days. As always, everyone who pre-registers and plays in all 5 of their matches has their full entry fee refunded. Also on tap: the Kogi food truck both Saturday and Sunday and Yilun Yang will do his pro game on Sunday.

College Pair Sought for Pair Go in Tokyo

The 5th World Students Pair Go Championship takes place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 in Tokyo this year, held in parallel with the 29th International Amateur Pair Go Championship. We are seeking one North American pair, one man and one woman, who must be US or Canadian citizens, amateur players, enrolled in college, university, or graduate school, and under the age of 30. All food, accommodation, and air fare is covered and the standard of the experience … food, play, company, tourism … is very high. Standard AGA and CGA eligibility rules apply. Please contact Andy Okun at president@usgo.org as soon as possible, but before Sept. 7. Pairs will be given preference, but often we assemble a pair out of interested individuals.

Ming-jiu Jiang 7P vs. Andy Liu 1P Friday night for 2nd berth in Tiangfu Cup

Over 100 people watched online Thursday night as Ming-jiu Jiang 7P eliminated Ryan Li 1P in the 4th round of the Tiangfu Cup Preliminary. Jiang will play Andy Liu 1P Friday night at 7p — also on KGS — in the final game. The winner will be the second North American representative to the Tiangfu Cup, joining Eric Lui, who secured the first spot earlier in the week.

Eric Lui 1P in as 1st N.A. rep to Tianfu Cup; Andy Liu awaits result of Ryan Li vs. Mingjiu Jiang Thursday night

Eric Lui 1P defeated Andy Liu 1P on Wednesday night to become the first North American representative to the Tianfu Cup. Eliminated from the competition on Wednesday night were Stephanie Yin 1P and Huiren Yang 1P. Winners Ryan Li and Ming-jiu Jiang will compete Thursday night at 7:45pm on KGS as the lower bracket continues. Andy Liu will play the winner of that round on Friday for the second representative slot.

Feng Yun and Dalhoon Ahn out in Tianfu Cup Preliminary; Round 3 set for Wednesday night on KGS

Feng Yun 9P and Dalhoon Ahn 9P were eliminated in the second round of the Tianfu Cup Preliminary, played online on KGS on Tuesday. The first round was played on Monday. In the third round, to be played Wednesday on KGS at 7P EDT in the AGA Tournaments Room, Andy Liu 1P will play Eric Lui 1P in the top bracket and the bottom bracket will feature Stephanie Yin 1P (who defeated Feng Yun) vs. Ryan Li 1P and Ming-jiu Jiang 7P vs. Huiren Yang 1P (who defeated Dalhoon Ahn). The five-round double-elimination tournament runs through Friday and will select two professional representatives to represent North America in the first Tianfu Cup in China. AGA National Tournament Coordinator Jeff Shaevel is the Tournament Director.
