The Midwest Open 2023 Calling it “One of the more exciting and fun events of the year,” local organizers are inviting go players to join them in Columbus, Ohio from March 25-26th for the 2023 Midwest Open. “It’s a terrific place to see old friends across the board and if you’re new to in-person tournaments, this is the ultimate place to make new friends!” says Devin Fraze. The Midwest Open features an Ultra Strong Master Division — 6 rounds for 16 players — and a large Main Division with players from all over the country. Salt City Tournament 4-round tournament. Current AGA membership is required. Nice prize for every player. All playing levels welcome. Where: Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice, 2013 E Genesee St, Syracuse, NY When: Saturday, April 15 Registration fee: $15. High school age and younger: $10. Time controls: Fischer time (aka "Bonus time"): 18 minutes basic, with 15 seconds added after each move (equates to 55 minutes and 30 seconds for each player in a 300-move game). Prizes: $150, $100, and $50 to the top 3 finishers in A division. All other players get to select a new go book or other go-related item to take home. Our tournament's traditional Problem Cake will be devoured at the end of lunch. Free refreshments provided. Players can order lunch (about $7) from a Chinese restaurant menu. 2023 Chicago Open The 2023 Chicago Open, organized by the Evanston Go Club, will be held over Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-28. With 8 rounds over 2 days, we offer you the most intense tournament experience in the country. Come for the chance to play serious games and reunite with your go-playing friends! Medals and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers of each division. First place overall wins the 2023 Chicago Open trophy and a cash prize of at least $600. Following the success of the 2022 Chicago Open last year, we have moved the tournament to the Evanston Holiday Inn. Burning Board Go Festival The second Burning Board Go Festival and Camp will be June 12 through June 18, 2023 at Camp Crabtree in Umstead State park in Raleigh, NC. The event will feature 6 long tournament games and numerous workshops and lectures by famous teacher and author Yuan Zhou. Burning Board will be an opportunity for you to reconnect with fellow Go players, benefit from multiple workshops with a great teacher and immerse yourself in Go in a natural outdoor setting. Commuters are welcome but a few early birds also have the option to stay onsite. Cabins may be occupied as early as June 12 and self-paired games may be played anytime, with the primary tournament and workshops June 15-17.
