World Mind Sports Games

(Different from the SportAccord World Mind Games)

The World Mind Sports Games (WMSG) are held shortly after the Summer Olympics. The WMSG are organized by the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) under the patronage of the SportAccord, formerly called the General Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF). Its goal is to have go and other mind sports recognized as Olympic events. The WMSG consists of events for bridge, chess, go, draughts (checkers) and xianqi.

Players from over 150 countries and regions compete in the Olympic tradition, emphasizing fair play, fitness, stamina, discipline, training, concentration and fighting spirit.

Tournament System and Eligibility

For the FAQ and general participation guidelines, read the WMSG Participation Information. Read the WMSG Participation Update for recent changes and the actual application form. To compete for the team, players should follow the instructions in both documents.

Organization

The go section consists of six events:

  • Individual Open
  • Men’s Individual
  • Women’s Individual
  • Men’s Team- Five-board team matches
  • Women’s Team- Five-board team matches
  • Mixed Pairs- Pair go featuring both amateur and pro players
