For many go players around the world, the annual US and European Go Congresses are go heaven. Featuring near round-the-clock go (the Midnight Madness tournament returns to the US this year!), from tournaments to pro lectures, lessons, simuls and more, these events are a unique, memorable and fun way to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of go. US GO CONGRESS LAUNCHES WEBSITE: The 23rd Annual US Go Congress, scheduled for
July 28 -
August 4 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, today launched the Congress
website. "Register before June 1 and receive a $100 discount off the
registration fee!" says Congress Co-Director Chuck Robbins. There's
something for everyone at the 8-day event, from beginning go players to
the top players in the country, with free lectures by US and foreign
professionals, to tournaments including the US Open (open to all), the
Redmond Cup (invitational for young players) and the ever-popular
Self-Paired (open to all, play anytime, handicap tournament). There's a
lot more, too, including private lessons with professionals,
professional game review and analysis, a Lightning Go Tournament and
Pair Go, as well as lots of onsite go publications, equipment and

European Go
Congress, which runs July 14-28 in Villach, Austria. The 14-day event
features a main tournament, the European Masters Tournament, a weekend
tournament and plenty of side go tournaments, as well as lectures and
simuls by pros and more, all in Austria's Carinthian lake district.
Villach, in addition to being the cultural center of southern Austria,
boasts hiking trails, castles, ruins, excellent gastronomy, spas, and a
classical music festival that's running at the same time as the
Congress. Organizer Simon Gemel welcomes US visitors and promises "fun
with a lot of nice people at our social evenings and our special
'random pairing rengo' variant - regardless of whether you're a top
player, beginner or guest." Click

NON-PLAYERS
WELCOME! Both Congresses welcome and have made arrangements
for non-go players, with both on and off-site activities and
opportunities for travel to nearby attractions, including Gettysburg,
Longwood Gardens, the Wyeth Gallery, Brandywine Valley and Amish
country (US) and the Doll and vehicle museums in Villach, the Burg
Landskron castle, Monkey's Mountain Landskron, and a spa and health
resort, as well as a Bodypainting festival. Check the websites for
