GO PIC SCREENS THIS WKEND IN NY: Tickets for the new Go Seigen pic (Go Seigen Pic To Screen In NYC 8/28 EJ) are now on sale online at www.filmlinc.com "The Go Master" screens Sat Sept 30 at 3P and Sun Oct 1 at 6P as part of the New York Film Festival. This is a brand-new film (different from The Go Masters), directed by Tian Zhuangzhuang.

UNCLAIMED MONEY! "All of you still hanging on to your Oza Certificates from last January should know that they still have value," reports AGA Treasurer Ulo Tamm, who says all January 2006 Oza certificates are now redeemable at 50% of face value. Send them to: AGA, PO Box 596 Broomfield, CO 80038-0596.

LU WANG 8D TO TAKE ON JAPANESE PRO: Lu Wang 8d has been selected as this year's player in a match against Izumi Kobayashi 6P. The semi-annual event, sponsored by the Nihon Kiin, will be held online in mid to late October. Kobayashi grew up in a family of accomplished go players; her father is Koichi Kobayashi and she's married to Cho U, one of the top players in Japan. She became a professional go player in 1995, and was promoted to 6 dan, in 2004. Lu Wang, of Atlanta, Georgia, originally an amateur 5d from China, studied from age 7 to 12, when he stopped "due to school pressures." He picked up the game again when he began attending college in the US in 2002 and has been in the top six players in the US Opne three straight years ( 2003-2005), winning second place in 2004 and taking 4th in this year's Toyota Denso NY.

TAMM RETIRES, AGAIN: "American Go Association Treasurer Ulo Tamm has decided to hang up his eyeshade after years of important service to the AGA," reports AGA President Mike Lash. Tamm has served as treasurer twice, from 1998 to 2002 and then again since 2004. "It is no exaggeration to say that Ulo helped to create the modern AGA," Lash told the EJ. "Under his fiscal leadership the AGA incorporated as a tax-exempt group, assumed fiscal responsibility for the annual Go Congress starting in 2000, and functioned as Treasurer for the several early AGA summer go camps. Ulo brought a thoughtful perspective to the management of AGA funds, for instance by restructuring the reserve fund to yield higher interest...people like Ulo make the things you read about possible." In seeking a qualified replacement, Lash says he's looking for recent experience in bookkeeping or accounting, and a solid understanding of financial management, "but need not be a CP A. Experience in non-profit organizations or finance is a huge plus." Lash assures prospective candidates that "Ulo will work through a transition period to help the new Treasurer learn the ropes before turning over full control." Interested applicants should write to Volunteer Coordinator Kevin Purvis at Volunteer@usgo.org

GO QUIZ, CROSSWORD PUZZLE WINNERS: Philip Waldron of Gloucester, Ontario (Canada), is this week's Go Quiz Winner. His name was selected at random from those who knew that John Lee and Thomas Hsiang are the only US citizens to win the career Grand Slam of the US Open, Ing Invitational, Fujitsu Qualifier and US representative to the World Amateur Go Championship (both have also represented the U.S. in the World Pair Go Championship). Waldron wins a gift certificate to the go vendor of his choice. In our other contest, Joel Sanet, Peter Morris and Jeffrey McLellan win a collection of ten issues of Go World magazine for submitting the correct solution to last week's go-themed crossword puzzle, "Last Dango in Rochester," created by former President Bob High in 1991. It turns out that 42 down and 43 omitted clues; they should be: 42 Down: Fr. Saint, 43 Down: Trig. Fx. The complete solution can be downloaded at http://www.usgo.org/resources/downloads/Last Dango Solution.pdf

THIS WEEK'S GO QUIZ: Which Japanese player's game, characterized by calm, steady, and tenacious play in the endgame, was described as 'oxidized silver'? Was it Sugiuchi Masao, Shimamura Toshihiro or Fujisawa Shuko? If you think you know, click here to enter our Go Quiz Question of The Week: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=330212370809 One winner will be drawn at random from the correct answers and will be awarded a go book or $15 gift certificate from one of our fine go vendors.

WORDS MATTER: The event referred to in last week's review of "Wordplay" (9/22 EJ) is called the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament -- not Contest - and the filmmaker is Ken, not Rick Burns. "I have the pleasure of knowing several of the people featured in the film," writes Rick Rubenstein, who caught our errors. "it was great fun seeing friends on the big screen."
