The annual U.S. Go Congress is North America's biggest and best go event of the year. Eight days of go, this year in Black Mountain, North Carolina from August 12-20, feature The US Open, North America's biggest tournament, the continuous and ever-popular Self-Paired Handicap Tournament, professional instruction, special events, private lessons, the North American Ing Cup, the Redmond Cup, great shopping for go stuff and much, much more! Whether you're looking to improve fast, catch up with old (and new) go friends, or enjoy a unique family vacation, the Go Congress has a lot to offer just about everybody.

CONGRESS FEATURES BEST FIELD FOR ALL: Hundreds of go players from across the country and around the world - from beginners to professionals - are signing up for the 22nd annual U.S. Go Congress. Players of all strengths will find the best field of the year: click here to see who's coming: http://www.gocongress06.org/php/listem.php  Check out the Congress website for more information and register on line at http://www.gocongress06.org/  REGISTER BEFORE JUNE 22nd to avoid late registration fees. For the full preliminary CONGRESS SCHEDULE, go to http://www.gocongress06.org/events.htm

PROFESSIONALLY SPEAKING: Not sure where you went wrong in that last game? Check it out with a top pro at a lecture or lesson! More than a dozen pros are expected, with six already confirmed, including Michael Redmond 9P, Kazunori Kawamura 9P, Noriyuki Nakayama 6P, Ryo Maeda 6P, Gua Juan 5P and Niu Xian Xian 5P.

TOURNEYS FOR EVERYONE: The Go Congress offers a variety of tournaments throughout the week. For the serious tournament player there is the U.S. Open each morning, the North American Ing Cup championship and the Redmond Cup youth championship. "There is also a continuous self-paired tournament where you can play rated or casual games from morning until well past midnight!" says Congress organizer Paul Celmer. "And if that isn't enough, there are also the 9x9, 13x13, Pair Go, and Lightning tournaments. Then there's the Midnight Madness tournament that starts promptly at - you guessed it - midnight!"

FAMILIES WELCOME: In addition to the many kids' go activities, there are free recreational facilities available at the Go Congress, including a pool and hiking trails. For additional fees, children can participate in a wide variety of activities including swimming lessons, arts and crafts (for rainy days), nature exploration and challenge ropes courses. "Bring your whole family," encourages Celmer, who notes that every child must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

TAKING THE GAME TO NEW HEIGHTS: Located literally on the side of a mountain with a spectacular view of a valley in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Blue Ridge Assembly YMCA conference center and summer camp offers a uniquely secluded, serene, and quiet setting conducive to relaxation, contemplation, and great go. Undisturbed by traffic, city noises, air pollution, or even the constant din of televisions, the players will be surrounded by a beauty and unhurried calm that will enhance and deepen their go-playing experience. With all the nostalgic charm of a small college campus and summer camp yet the amenities of a conference center, this special site offers something for everyone. Just two miles from the conference center is the town of Black Mountain with charming shops and bars. Asheville, a major tourist destination, is located 15 miles to the west.

WEDNESDAY OUTINGS: On the traditional day off, visit the spectacular Biltmore House and grounds, the largest residence in the United States. Hike in the many nearby state and national forests, or take a whitewater rafting trip. Details and prices are on the Congress website (to be posted soon)
