JIE LI GOING TO WORLD STUDENT TOURNEY: Jie Li 9d has been tapped to represent the US at the 4th World Student Go Championships, reports American Go Association President Mike Lash. The 23-year-old UC San Diego student holds the current US Masters, Ing, Cotsen and Texas Open titles holder. The Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan in February 2006.
ERIC LUI TOPS NOVA WINTER WARMER: Eric Lui 7d took top honors in the December 17 NoVa Winter Warmer with a 4-0 score. Also undefeated were James Wu 6k and John Porvaznik 27k. Full report in Monday's EJ.
JEFFERSON HIGH TAKES ALL-IOWA CUP: Fielding four players from Cedar Rapids, the Jefferson High School Go Club won the first competition for the All-Iowa Go Tournament Cup. The December 18 event was hosted by the Fairfield Go Club at The Java House in downtown Iowa City. Details Monday.
FENG YUN WORKSHOP/TOURNEY SET FOR HOLIDAY WEEK: Wondering what to do with the kids during next week's winter break? Feng Yun 9P's special workshop for children could be just the ticket! Her three-day program runs 12/26-28 at the Ramada Hotel in Pocono, PA, starting at noon on the 26th and wrapping up at 5P on the 28th. BR>TEENAGER FINALLY DEFEATED IN WOMEN'S TEAM MATCH: Chinese teenager Wang Xiangyun 1P, who defeated Japan's Osawa Narumi 3P for her fifth win in a row in the Women's World Cup, has lost to Korean Lee Minjin 4P. Minjin was then defeated by Japan's Chinen Kaori 4P. Details Monday.
KO GEUNTAE WINS KOREAN CHUNWON: Ko Geuntae 3P has defeated Park Jeonggeun 1P to take the 10th Chunwon title in Korea. Details Monday.
RUSSIANS PIONEER NEW TOURNEY SYSTEM: The first Russian Go & Strategy Championship was held on Saturday, December 17 in Moscow. The Championship employed a new system in which five separate tournaments were held in one room, reports Alexandre Dinerchtein 1P. Dinerchtein's game in the Russian Pro Championship was broadcast on KGS and is included with to

Hot off the boards, we're very pleased to bring you the final round of the 1st Russian Professional Go Championship, played December 17 in Moscow. Dmitrij Bogatskij 6d takes advantage of a late-game overplay by Alexandre Dinerchtein 1P to win the game. Dinerchtein, whose commentaries on pro games are a regular f
eature of the EJ, here turns his usual sharp eye on his own game and his self-criticisms are instructive.
Our bonus commentary today is from the second round of the 11th Chinese NEC Cup, played September 10, 2005 between Yu Bin 9P and Zhou Heyang 9P. The commentary by Zhou Heyang appeared in the October 1 issue of Weiqi World and was translated by David Wong 2d.
